Play Bass Guitar in ONE DAY

Until now learning how to play the bass guitar has meant a choice between struggling along on your own, expensive private guitar lessons or even attending evening group-classes. Now below is the general jist of how simple to follow this DVD is. In the example below, my girlfiend tried the Guitar DVD, but having checked over the Bass DVD its along very similar.

The guitar DVD contains everything you need to start play the guitar – and says that it ‘can get you up and running in just one day’. Now when I first read that statement, I was a bit ‘errr….whatever….’ so I decided to give it to my worse half. She’s been nagging me to teach her to play anything musical for ages, so I though I’d finally try and shut her up.

Now don’t tell her I said this (she doesn’t use the internet so I should be safe!) but she’s a bit rubbish when I’ve explained musical stuff, so I wasn’t holding much hope. (Even less after she rang me to ask how to get the DVD player on the telly – even my Gran can do that!). I was quite stunned to return from work and find that she could play a few chords (albeit slowly-slowly changing between them!) and she had grasped the basis of tuning it, even knew what quite a few of the bits were called! It was only through lack of time that she hadn’t learnt Mozarts 5th….”

Basically the guy on the DVD, Dave Dixon, explains things so that a kid can understand it, without patronising older players too. (Either he’s really good or I’m really bad at explaining!). A real bonus is that you don’t need to read music or bass guitar tablature to understand it, its all there in real live video for you to learn from. Grand bit of kit.

Herewe have three concerts from 1966, the first being Munich. Itspresented here in pristine quality, and while not the guys bestperformance it makes a nice bookend to their live career which startedin earnest in Germany some six years before.
The dark suitsBudokan concert has been reconstructed here out of two tapes. Thecomplete show was issued on laserdisc in Japan and is commonly booted ondvd. However the LD was spoiled to some degree by smearing and ghostingon dark scenes (profile shots of John are particularly bad). For thisreason Ive replaced most of the video with a vhs source which is ofsimilar quality but without the smearing. The light suits concert isof comparable video quality and has the audio resynched from cd source.This is a much better performance from The Beatles, although the vocalssound a bit distant.

We leave you with a bonus track: Johnsbrief but hilarious contribution to Not Only But Also in late 66. Thesudden appearance of the granny glasses marked the beginning of a newera and the end of the old Beatles. From now on they would continue torecord promo videos and special events, but the days of Thank Your LuckyStars, Big Night Out and Ready Steady Go were gone forever. Theirvarious promo films made between 1966 and 1970 can be found on theUnsurpassed Promos series.
Also included in this torrent is apatch file for Disc 4, which corrects some innadvertant visual faults inthe Dutch tv appearance. Follow the instructions attached.

VOLUME 1
Here is perhaps the most famous jazz broadcast of all time. Assembled in one all-star studio session, some of the giants of post-war jazz, captured in a smoke-filled room, perform a series of classic setpieces. HENRY RED ALLEN, PEE WEE RUSSELL, COLEMAN HAWKINS and COUNT BASIE play vibrant blues; THELONIOUS MONK, unapproachably cool, plays one of his extraordinary tunes. JIMMY GIUFFRE does this wonderfully modern pastoral. ‘The Train And The River’, and JIMMY RUSHING sings an ancient blues, with the crew-cut figure of GERRY MULLIGAN helping out in the band. But the heartstopping sequence is of BILLIE HOLIDAY, almost at the end of her career, singing the most beautiful and moving version of ‘Fine and Mellow’ you can imagine; LESTER YOUNG, her lifelong friend, is one of her accompanists. Respectful yet uncompromising, this is one of the most valuable and enjoyable jazz documents of its period.

VOLUME 2 (on the same disc)
More priceless jazz material drawn from vintage American television. the opening sequence features a couple of tunes from pianist AHMAD JAMAL and a lovely ballad performance from tenor saxophonist BEN WEBSTER, later joined by CHUCK CLAYTON and VIC DICKENSON. But the second course if even more exciting, the legendary ‘SOUND OF MILES DAVIS’ broadcast in its entirety. The music includes a long, grippingly intense recording of ‘So What’, featuring MILES and the incomparable JOHN COLTRANE in one of his few surviving TV appearances, plus a feature for the trumpeter in front of a big band under the casual direction of long-time associate GIL EVANS. Despite the offhand demeanour of the camerawork and MILES’S customary so-what attitude, the film captures a magical spontaneity in the playing. The atmosphere of this occasion is still electrifying, more than forty years later.
